We are looking for a Quantum Engineer – Control Electronics to lead the design, implementation, and realization of the control electronics system for our next-generation trapped-ion quantum computers. For this role, we are seeking someone with expertise in designing and implementing complex, multi-model data acquisition systems for use in quantum computers. Ideal candidates will have prior experience integrating control electronics for quantum computers or scientific apparatus that use laser cooled atoms or ions. This experience will include controlling or monitoring lasers, cryogenics, and ultrahigh vacuum systems, with appropriate experience in software engineering and development to implement this control hardware. They will also be experts in electromagnetic noise mitigation techniques for sensitive quantum systems. They will also be comfortable working with multi-disciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, and optical engineers, to unify the control of a variety of subsystems into a cohesive whole.
All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, integration, and testing of a complex control system architectures capable of synchronizing digital and analog electronic signals with data acquisition instruments.
- Troubleshoot electrical and optical systems with high performance noise requirements.
- Architect and implement software libraries to control and monitor a system.
- Work closely with an integrated team of scientists, engineers and technicians to translate system requirements and designs into functional hardware for trapped ion quantum computers.
- Engage with 3rd parties to cultivate possible key partnerships, supplier relationships, and co-development opportunities.
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Bachelor’s Degree Minimum.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience of hardware and software integration for precision data acquisition or system automation.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience working with quantum computing systems or laser cooled atomic science systems.
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person, defined as U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People’s Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
WE VALUE:
- Masters/PhD degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to architect heterogenous electronic control systems with stringent noise requirements.
- Previous work in an R&D laboratory and/or rapid prototyping environment.
- Knowledge of low-noise measurement techniques, especially for phase noise and NSD.
- Experience with software engineering and equipment automation.
- Experience with a wide range of laboratory environment and cryogenic equipment.
- Experience working within a cross-functional team environment.
- Individuals who are results-oriented and able to work with little supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done despite competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills and right size design documentation.
Estimated Salary Wage: $148,000 – $186,000 Annually
