Role Description:
As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal Environmental Consultant with a broad range of EIA experience. You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on various projects, lead and coordinate Environmental Impacts Assessments and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business, and mentor others in the team.
As part of our Environmental team, you’ll help improve quality of life. With your specialism in environmental management, or your technical or sustainability expertise, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise in some of the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations.
Role Accountabilities:
- Leading on the coordination and delivery of environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development, and delivering optimal environmental outcomes.
- Undertaking your own work to an excellent standard, and reviewing the work of others.
- Working in partnership with other members of the Impact Assessment Team across the UK.
- Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors, and quality assurance.
- Leading and supporting tender proposals/bids – working as part of a project-winning team.
- Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers, and colleagues.
- Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
- Developing outstanding reports – an ability to summarise and explain outcomes to non-technical audiences will be critical for this.
- Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Good knowledge of EIA practices and procedures and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
- Experience across a range of project types, ideally within the energy, residential/mixed-use/regeneration sector, as well as in other major infrastructure projects including rail/highways.
- Proven experience of managing and coordinating EIA screening and scoping activities and Environmental Statements including the technical review of specialist chapters.
- Practical working knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting process.
- Strong report writing, verbal, and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
- Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
- Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
- The ability to work as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable.
- Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
- A valid UK driving licence.
- Desired: Experience in the delivery of SEA and/or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects.
- Desired: Knowledge and application experience of sustainability, waste, or carbon assessments.
