Are you ready to lead a team of passionate ecologists working to protect, enhance and restore our aquatic environment?

Our multidisciplinary Water Environment team is looking for a Principal Aquatic Ecologist to provide technical expertise for new and existing projects, supporting the growth of our successful team.

At AECOM, we’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering a diverse portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients, including the Environment Agency, Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy projects, and major infrastructure initiatives. Our projects include baseline data collection, fish passage and weir removal, habitat restoration, pollution response, and water quality investigations.

Our Aquatic Ecology team operates in Nottingham and Leeds laboratories, analyzing samples, conducting field surveys, and providing technical services. You can be based in any UK office, benefiting from our flexible hybrid working model. This role offers a unique opportunity to support a talented team dedicated to positively impacting the aquatic environment.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Lead: Manage and coordinate aquatic ecology project delivery for clients.
  • Deliver: Analyze data, produce EcIA documents per CIEEM guidelines, contribute to EcIA, planning, mitigation, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate: Work with multidisciplinary teams to provide expert advice and ensure a cohesive approach nationwide.

Join our dynamic Water business with around 660 experts in the UK & Ireland, including 20+ aquatic ecology specialists. Collaborate on projects from concept to completion, ranging from small initiatives to large-scale ventures.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Aquatic Ecology or related field (e.g., Marine Biology, Zoology).
  • Experience with monitoring techniques for aquatic ecology and understanding relevant legislation like the Water Framework Directive.
  • Experience in EcIA/EIA processes, from data collection to impact assessment and mitigation.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in CIEEM, CIWEM, IFM, or similar.
  • Willingness to travel to sites.
