As an Oncologist, you will leverage your medical expertise in oncology to support legal cases by offering independent insights, thorough assessments, and testimony when needed. Working on a freelance, case-by-case basis, you will review patient records, analyze treatment protocols, and evaluate care standards. Your expertise will be essential for legal professionals navigating cases related to oncology, such as delayed diagnosis, treatment complications, and standard-of-care assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct detailed reviews of medical records, diagnostic imaging, and treatment plans related to oncology cases.
  2. Prepare objective, evidence-based reports that provide clarity on cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care standards for legal teams.
  3. Offer expert testimony in court, arbitration, or deposition settings, presenting complex oncology information clearly and objectively.
  4. Collaborate with legal teams to interpret oncology-related medical concepts and terminology, ensuring accessibility for non-medical audiences.
  5. Remain updated on advancements in oncology and relevant medical guidelines to provide accurate and current insights for legal cases.

Key Areas of Focus

  1. Evaluate cases involving missed or delayed cancer diagnoses, assessing the adherence to diagnostic standards.
  2. Analyze treatment plans, chemotherapy and radiotherapy regimens, and any complications arising from treatment.
  3. Provide unbiased opinions on potential deviations from standard oncology care, including cases of inadequate treatment or misdiagnosis.
  4. Assess the quality of care in oncology settings, considering the patient safety protocols and management of adverse events.
  5. Present expert testimony with clarity, supporting legal teams in building a strong case for medical malpractice or defense.

The Profile

Qualifications

  1. UK medical degree with specialization in oncology (e.g., FRCR or equivalent).
  2. In-depth knowledge of oncology, including cancer biology, diagnostic techniques, and treatment modalities.
  3. Proven experience in expert witness services or medical-legal consulting preferred.
  4. Fully qualified oncologist with extensive experience in clinical oncology, including cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient care.
  5. Previous experience as an expert witness or consultant for medical-legal cases is highly valued.
  6. Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and present findings to a legal audience.
  7. Demonstrated ability to deliver objective, evidence-based opinions that meet the evidentiary standards of legal cases.
