The Position
Reporting to the Service Engineering Manager, the primary responsibility of the role is to provide expert technical support to our Offshore O&M department, who operate and maintain renewable energy assets including offshore meteorological masts, wind turbines, offshore transmission assets including onshore and offshore substations, foundations and subsea cables. The Offshore Engineer will enhance delivery of our operational services by providing remote and on-site technical support (where necessary), training, and documentation.
Key Accountabilities
- Be the key point of contact for Offshore O&M in providing technical support
- Provide remote technical support via phone, email, or through the ‘Support App’ to Offshore O&M and other departments in the company
- Provide on-site interventions where required
- Develop documentation for operational use (Work Instructions, Method Statements)
- Review new and updated manufacturer documentation and technical standards with the aim of updating internal technical procedures
- Provide technical briefings to the Operational Team when documentation has been revised
- Support documentation management and control
- Develop training plans and material, and support its delivery
- Assist in HSQE incident investigations and root cause analyses, and support in the delivery of improved procedures to mitigate risks identified
- Support in quality control
- Foster collaboration with the wider Service Engineering department, ensuring knowledge is shared across the different regions
- Support in virtual or face-to-face meetings with Clients on technical issues, where necessary
Knowledge
- Good knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
- Knowledge of BOP applicable to offshore wind farms
- Knowledge of LV, HV and mechanical fault-finding and analysis
- Knowledge of Siemens 3.6X turbine platform is desirable, though training can be provided in this area
Skills
- Excellent attitude to safety
- Good communication skills, fluent written and spoken English
- Good IT skills for writing reports and developing documentation
- A coaching mentality, being able to upskill and train others
Experience
- Experience working offshore on transmission systems
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, power electronics, and hydraulic maintenance activities and troubleshooting
- Experience developing documentation such as Work Instructions
- Experience working on offshore wind turbines, especially the Siemens 3.6X platform, is desirable
- Experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
Qualifications
- An NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering
- GWO Training (desirable, however full training will be given)
- Full UK driving license
