About the role
UCL Media Relations Managers are responsible for planning and implementing media relations strategies on a diverse range of issues, working to deliver positive coverage of the university.
They work with national, international, regional, and local media to ensure that UCL’s key messages reach its audiences. Responsibilities include responding to calls, writing and editing news releases and press statements, updating web pages, organizing media briefings, and maintaining relationships with media and the UCL community. They also advise on media handling and are responsible for media activity for selected UCL Faculties, in consultation with senior management.
The role involves building internal networks with academic and professional staff and external networks with journalists and external stakeholders such as partner institution media teams.
Additionally, they provide strategic media engagement advice to academics and deliver media training within their faculties and areas of responsibility.
We have one full-time permanent post starting from the end of June and one full-time fixed-term post from 23 June to 21 June.
About you
The successful candidate will have significant experience working in a busy news environment, such as a press office or a communications team.
Essential skills include a strong understanding of external media (print, broadcast, online, social), strategic communication approaches to secure high-profile coverage, and editorial experience in conveying complex subjects clearly and compellingly.
