Job Description:

Mechanical Design Engineer required for a manufacturer of packaging equipment based in Bristol. Responsible for delivering successful projects to both internal and external stakeholders, the Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of projects from initial concept through to build and support of commissioning and installation.

Position Overview

  1. Perform design work on customer projects
  2. Attend specification meetings with global customers, providing knowledgeable contribution regarding the mechanical design aspects of projects.
  3. Take responsibility for all the mechanical aspects of a project and provide technical guidance to internal and external customers as necessary.
  4. Communicate with other design engineers (mechanical and electrical) during the design of projects to ensure that these disciplines are fully coordinated.
  5. Make occasional visits to both UK and international destinations as necessitated by the customer project requirements.
  6. Contribute creative ideas; producing design schemes, producing assembly drawings.
  7. Produce parts lists, detail drawings.
  8. Complete engineering design on time to the project plan.
  9. Be aware of cost targets in design, purchasing, and assembly.
  10. Document and archive all project related material.
  11. Carry out risk assessments on machinery and assemblies of machinery.
  12. Advise on mechanical Health and Safety aspects of the product range.
  13. Keep abreast of developments in UK and European safety legislation and attend courses as necessary.
  14. Attend project meetings and update the Project Managers on engineering progress.
  15. Liaise with all departments to ensure projects are completed on time and to budget.
  16. Provide assistance to Assembly personnel during the build phase of a project and assist in commissioning.
  17. Provide support to Sales and the Applications Manager regarding concept drawings and carton appraisals.

Position Requirements

  1. Experience in the design of electro-mechanical mechanisms and equipment.
  2. 3D modelling skills (preferably Solid Works) Sheet metal an advantage.
  3. Ability to design for manufacture and assembly.
  4. The ability to read and produce 2D production drawings applying GD&T as necessary.
  5. Experience of the interactions and interfaces with electrical engineering.
  6. Knowledge of the machinery directive and UKCA/CE marking.
  7. Problem solving and troubleshooting ability.
  8. Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Integrated) Minimum HNC.
  9. Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in a Design Engineering role.

Position Remuneration

Competitive salary likely £34k-£39k dependent on experience (Top end for all boxes ticked)

  • Working hours are 37.5 hrs a week
  • 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays – increasing to 28 after 5 years’ service
  • Flexible Working
