First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a candidate on behalf of one of our clients. Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designs, verifies, prepares, and maintains detailed technical design drawings, schematics, or specifications using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (currently Creo) and Microsoft software packages (Excel, Word, etc.) ready for manufacture.
- Prepares Manufacturing & Process Instructions as required for new products.
- Resolves manufacturing issues in the early stages of product design and development.
- Works closely with design briefs to resolve design details or discrepancies, or to prepare drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs which require a high degree of precision using CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) equipment.
- Good understanding of current and new emerging manufacturing methods.
- Interfaces as necessary with both internal and external customers during the design process.
- Ensures products are developed to achieve compliance with design objectives.
- Provides a formal handover of designed product to the Manufacturing Process Engineering group, via pre-production process & design reviews.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum BEng level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Scientific subject.
- Currently or working towards Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status and member of a Professional Engineering Institution.
- Minimum 3 years Design Engineering experience, preferably in the Automotive or Aerospace manufacturing industry.
- Experienced using CREO or similar 3D CAD and product lifecycle management software.
- Experience of design for manufacture and design for assembly.
- Mechanical bias knowledge with some electrical familiarity.
- Good understanding of GD&T and creation of detail and manufacturing drawings to BS8888 or similar.
- Understanding of the design development process including risk assessment and DFMEA, DFM/A (design for manufacture and assembly).
- Understanding manufacturing processes and tolerances.

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 Per Annum
