The Role

Library Assistants are responsible for front-line library services including counter duties, stock maintenance, handling enquiries, and assisting members of the public in our Computer Learning Centres. You may also assist with reference, local studies, and bibliographical services.

The working hours are variable within 8.30am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 3.00pm Saturday, based at any of the eight libraries in Tameside.

About You

  • Previous experience of dealing with the public
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact with customers
  • Ability to converse at ease with service users and provide advice in accurate spoken English
  • Well-organized, flexible, self-motivated, and confident in dealing with people
  • I.T. literate with familiarity in a Windows environment
  • Ability to access information on the Council Intranet/Internet, complete service request forms, and process payments via debit/credit card and cheque
