What to expect
As a Legal Counsel, you will undertake a valuable role responsible for supporting Post Office on a broad range of commercial dispute matters. Reporting to the Head of Legal – Dispute Resolution & Brand Protection, the Legal Counsel will manage legal risk relevant to the Post Office’s business, including: management of county court claims issued by customers; review of key policies and operational procedures; providing legal advice on potential or active disputes with business partners or suppliers; and assisting with training to help prevent disputes in the future.
The role requires the ability to identify and solve strategic and operational legal issues and provide succinct, accurate, and timely advice on complex issues. A critical part of the role will be to work proactively with stakeholders to ensure legal input is obtained on all relevant projects. The candidate should be comfortable managing stakeholders directly.
Additionally, the role will support the broader Legal team to achieve their strategic objectives, requiring close collaboration with the line manager, other Heads of Legal, the Legal Director, and colleagues across the Legal function.

What you’ll need to succeed
- 2-6 years post qualification experience in civil litigation and dispute resolution, preferably obtained at a leading private practice law firm or as an in-house lawyer with a proven ability to influence and communicate effectively.
- Continuing compliance with SRA/Bar Council Code of Conduct, with eligibility to practice as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
