Job Description:
Pulse is currently searching for an experienced Pediatric Speech and Language Therapist who can provide overall support, working in a specialist secondary school with pupils who have autism and learning disabilities. This post is based in Kingsbury.
About the role:
As a Pediatric Speech and Language Therapist, you’ll work across 2 specialist schools with pupils aged 3-19, who have a range of health conditions such as PMLD, SLD, MLD, ASD. The therapy team is an integral part of pupils accessing the curriculum. You will work closely with families, school staff, NHS, social care teams, and the onsite multidisciplinary team, including nurses, dieticians, and paediatricians. The position is full-time (36 hours per week) with flexible hours available.
Main responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose, and manage communication and feeding needs of children.
- Support young people and parents in accessing therapy and education, using SEND code of practice, including contributing to mediation and SEND Tribunal proceedings.
- Manage department budget.
- Lead and collaborate within multi-professional teams, influencing service development.
- Provide clinical supervision and facilitate development of therapists, assistants, students, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Design and deliver training to other professionals.
Qualifications and skills:
- HCPC Registered
- Ability to motivate children and celebrate successes.
- Experience with dysphagia caseload at an expert level.
- Ability to run internal training for education staff.
- Effective interpersonal skills and team leadership abilities.
- Strong assessment and management skills for speech and language needs.
- Knowledge of curricula: P-Scales, Equals, National Curriculum, and relevant Key Stage levels.
