Lead Design Managers represent a broad set of skills and experience in our Design Leadership team, ensuring best practice through hands-on delivery of client work. They are responsible for the line management and pastoral support of the design team, with dedicated time for oversight of people within our practice teams.
They lead strategies to build an improved culture within the design practice and contribute to creating an environment in which designers and researchers can deliver their best work.
Responsibilities
- Have regular check-ins with direct reports and agree relevant and achievable personal objectives and goals, supported by their Head of Practice.
- Assist direct reports to gather regular feedback from project teams and operational staff within TPXimpact.
- Lead initiatives for improving the wellbeing of team members and culture of our design practice.
- Prepare requests for pay review and progression requests with direct reports with support of Heads of Practice.
- Coach direct reports to understand and apply TPXimpact values.
- Ensure direct reports receive TPXimpact operational messages and share any feedback with Head of Design Operations.
As a lead design manager on client work, you will:
- Demonstrate and shape best practice as a design leader through delivery of client work.
- Provide design direction in collaboration with other senior leaders as part of projects and programmes of work.
- Lead work and teams, or work independently as part of projects.
- Support and coach other designers or researchers in communities of practice and project teams to support delivery outcomes and individual development goals.
- Support Heads of Practice to develop the wider design practice in TPXImpact e.g. recruitment, leading and supporting activities in communities of practice, and knowledge management.
- Support business development activities, including leading creative development of design approaches in proposals and sales bids, and contributing to pitches and client presentations.
