NBCUniversal is a leader in providing entertainment programming to the US and international marketplaces. The International Television Distribution division is responsible for the international distribution of NBCUniversal product to all forms of linear and digital media. This includes distribution of current and library theatrical movies, direct-to-video movies, documentaries and specials, plus all forms of television product – scripted TV series, non-scripted TV series, mini-series, animation and TV movies.

OVERVIEW – ROLE PURPOSE

The Lead Channel Manager will be responsible for the full day-to-day management of a portfolio of YouTube channels, including end-to-end channel management and optimisation: content ideation, creating upload schedules, submitting creative briefs, approving assets, uploading content, updating channel artwork, editing and transcoding videos, moderating comments, copywriting, while adhering to YouTube’s guidelines and best practices.

Working closely with the Head of Audience Development, the Lead Channel Manager will ensure that revenue targets are achieved. You will manage a small team to ensure best-in-class social strategy and creative with the primary objective of reaching those targets.

A key aspect of the role will be the analysis of channel data, and you will be required to present this to the team on a regular basis and draw actionable insights to inform future strategy.

You will meet regularly with the Head of Audience Development to analyse viewing data from multiple analytics tools to validate existing strategies and provide information to guide programming, marketing, and investment decisions going forward.

The Lead Channel Manager will work with internal stakeholders and brand managers, regularly communicating with these groups to ensure that we are delivering against their KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), as well as our own, and ensuring that all channels adhere to brand guidelines.

The Lead Channel Manager will be encouraged to proactively expand the portfolio by launching new channels, pages, and shows; laying out the necessary content and engagement activity needed to grow revenue and audiences.

The Lead Channel Manager will have a key role in shaping and executing strategy for channels, pages, and shows within their verticals, producing social playbooks, training guides, and working closely with the Head of Production to ensure the quality and consistency of content formats.

The Lead Channel Manager will have one or more direct reports and will be required to aid them in their personal and professional development. This will include regular 1-to-1s, formal bi-yearly performance feedback, and general mentorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Lead a team tasked with performing day-to-day channel management responsibilities, ensuring that they’re working towards the common goal of delivering against business objectives, financial or otherwise.
  2. Report to the Head of Audience Development monthly to analyse financial results, devise strategy, and update on ongoing projects and tasks.
  3. Personally manage some channels and pages within your verticals.
  4. Manage and establish relationships with key internal stakeholders.
  5. Present to internal stakeholders monthly, quarterly, and bi-yearly on channel performance where necessary.
  6. Manage one or more direct reports.
  7. Report internally on quarterly vertical performance.
  8. Create and maintain a social playbook for each of your verticals.
  9. Occasionally edit and transcode videos.
  10. Copywriting, editing channel and video metadata.
  11. Ensure channels adhere to YouTube best practices.
  12. Ensure all content, including copy, fits YouTube’s Kids Quality Principles.
  13. Take ownership of the metadata translation workflow, ensuring all metadata is delivered on time.
  14. Work closely with the Operations team to execute bulk upload strategies for a number of channels using YouTube’s content delivery system.
  15. Ensure content adheres to company policy, as well as quality and brand requirements.
  16. Create training guides and other materials for new and existing employees.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  1. A broad knowledge of the Kids & Family content landscape.
  2. Massive passion for social media and the broader Kids & Family Entertainment industry with a finger-on-the-pulse grasp of new trends and product developments.
  3. Deep knowledge of the Kids & Family YouTube landscape and competitor brands.
  4. At least four years YouTube channel management experience.
  5. YouTube Certified.
  6. Knowledge of YouTube Content ID.
  7. Proficiency using Adobe software including Photoshop and Premiere.
  8. YouTube/TT/IG/FB super user.
  9. Microsoft Office including PowerPoint.

  1. A university degree (Business, Digital Media, Video Production ideal, but not essential) and a minimum of 2 years in digital media.
  2. Experience of managing a YouTube portfolio.
