Our client is a leading professional membership body based in the North West of England; they are now seeking a talented individual to take on the role of Head of Publishing Strategy working across their journals and other publications. This is a crucial role responsible for driving the strategic vision and growth of their publishing activities. This is a hybrid role , based a minimum of 3 days a week in the office in the North West; they offer excellent benefits including 28 days holiday plus bank holidays, a generous pension scheme, and an annual salary starting from £67,000.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement financial and strategic plans for journals and publications
- Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief on editorial oversight, submission, and peer review
- Look for new initiatives to support research and development
- Ensure high-quality typesetting and printing processes, driving continuous improvement in production processes
- Lead negotiations with suppliers and publishing partners
- Manage subscription and open-access models and provide strategic guidance on journals development, including new digital initiatives
- Manage responsibilities alongside the CEO
- Act as a key liaison with the CEO and Executive Committee and provide insights on behalf of the organization at external events
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of strategic leadership in professional, academic, or STM publishing with a deep understanding of journals publishing processes, OA models, and standards. Exceptional management skills, the ability to lead teams, drive innovation, and build partnerships are essential, as well as negotiation skills. A commitment to upholding ethical standards and promoting diversity and inclusion in publishing is vital, along with a genuine ambition to make an impact on the global professional scientific community.
