Head of Diversity & Inclusion
Are you passionate about driving meaningful change in diversity and inclusion within a membership organisation? Our client is seeking an exceptional leader to manage the implementation of their diversity and inclusion strategy, championing greater participation from underrepresented and minority groups for their external programmes.
About the Role
As Head of Diversity & Inclusion, you will be at the forefront of shaping and delivering programmes that foster an inclusive and diverse external STEM community. Your role will be 80% running external programmes and 20% internal guidance. Your expertise will guide senior leadership and internal teams, ensuring initiatives meet the highest standards and have a lasting impact upon a variety of underrepresented communities. You will collaborate with stakeholders, drive innovative research, and oversee programmes that support external mentorship, leadership development, and recognition of diverse talent. The role is full time; however, if you would prefer part time (4 days per week), we would very much like to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of diversity and inclusion strategies.
- Support internal teams in embedding diversity across all programmes and initiatives (20% of the role).
- Advise senior leadership on best practices and emerging trends in diversity and inclusion.
- Drive initiatives to increase diversity in grant applications and leadership opportunities for underrepresented researchers.
- Deliver and oversee key programmes, including research commissioning, stakeholder engagement, thought leadership discussions, and mentoring support.
- Develop and implement internal diversity programmes, collaborating with HR to provide training and staff support networks.
- Collect, analyse, and publish diversity data to track progress and inform future strategies.
- Support the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and related subgroups.
- Promote the contributions of diverse scientists through internal communications and external campaigns.
- Forge partnerships with national academies, funders, and specialist organisations to enhance collaborative efforts.
- As part of a team of three, you will manage and motivate the team, ensuring professional development and a culture of excellence.
- Ensure effective marketing and communication strategies to maximize outreach and engagement.
- Monitor and evaluate programme success, refining initiatives to maximize impact.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- A passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion with an understanding of the STEM landscape or have gained experience from a membership organisation.
- Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, with experience managing high-impact external programmes.
- Proven ability to advise and influence senior leaders, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in designing and implementing diversity initiatives, research projects, or policy development.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Data-driven approach to programme management, evaluation, and reporting.
- Budget management experience with a track record of delivering cost-effective programmes.
