Job Description:

A Graduate Development Engineer is sought to join the Engineering Development Team. The team supports the Business Development team to ensure growth of our existing district heating and district cooling schemes, as well as on securing new schemes through tenders or direct engagement with developers.

The Graduate Development Engineer will support the team in carrying out the following activities:

  • Feasibility studies
  • Energy and Hydraulic modelling
  • Techno-economic appraisal for district heating and cooling networks throughout the UK.

Specific Requirements:

  • BEng / BSc Mechanical Engineering Degree (or similar, minimum of a 2:1 standard).
  • Experience of AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Excel.
  • An understanding of the decentralised energy industry.
  • A good understanding and ideally ability to carry out energy, hydraulic and techno-economic modelling.
  • An understanding of concept design of energy centre (e.g. heat pumps, boilers, chillers) and district heating network installations.
  • An understanding of sizing and specifying heating and cooling generation plant for DH.
  • A basic knowledge of relevant standards and an ability to seek, understand and utilise industry knowledge to good effect.
  • Ideally previous experience of working with multidisciplinary teams for large construction projects.
  • An attention to detail and a high standard of verbal and written skills.
  • A team player with an ability to self-manage and develop projects from an outline brief and specification.
  • A keen interest in combined heat and power (CHP) and Heat Pumps (HPs) installations, district energy networks and energy saving technology.
  • A natural aptitude for undertaking engineering calculations, analysis and problem solving.
  • An interest in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, energy transfer and stress analysis.
  • Project document control & management in line with the company Quality Management System.
  • Operate within and adhere to the company Health & Safety policy and procedures.

Desirable:

  • MEng / MSc Mechanical Engineering Degree (or similar subject).
  • Supplementary safety and industry specific training (such as CSCS card, IOSH, CIBSE courses).
  • Experience of working on modelling software like EnergyPro, Termis, AutoCAD etc.
  • A working knowledge of relevant CIBSE Guides, CP1, British Standards, BSRIA, IGEM and other industry authority publications.
  • An appreciation and understanding of the Construction & Design Management Regulations 2015.
  • An ability to size and specify major plant such as boilers, CHP engines, pumps, heat exchangers and chillers.
