Field Service Engineer-EMEA

Job Title: Technical Support Specialist

Location: EMEA Region

Reporting to the International Service Manager, this newly created position will provide technical, applications, service, pre, and post-sales support for all product lines offered by Teledyne Photon Machines in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and occasionally in other territories worldwide. This position will support sales channels, customers, prospects, and OEM partners in both pre- and post-sales functions, serving as a focal point of technical contact throughout the EMEA region. Regular international travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide post-sale technical support.
2. Conduct on-site installation of complex scientific equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order.
3. Conduct on-site scheduled/planned maintenance visits.
4. Provide technical sales support.
5. Provide customer training.
6. Offer applications advice and consultation.
7. Present technical materials at conferences/seminars/sales visits.
8. Instrument problem-solving, field repair, and maintenance.
9. Complete and submit field service reports.
10. Occasional assistance with technical marketing, as directed.
11. Perform other duties as deemed necessary by management.

Teledyne Advanced Chemistry Systems’ EMEA operation is relatively small, and all our employees must wear many hats to provide the flexibility we require. This role will, from time to time, be required to provide similar functions for other TELEDYNE Advanced Chemistry systems product lines, depending upon time and resource demands. The position will include a high proportion of business travel throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the USA, with occasional visits to the Americas, Asia, and Australasia. Travel load is estimated at around 50-70%.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Degree in analytical chemistry, geochemistry, or related field.
2. Knowledge and experience of the practical application of ICP-MS (and ICP-AES).
3. Knowledge and experience in laser ablation and the ability to quickly develop a deep and authoritative knowledge of the technique.
4. Excellent technical problem-solving/troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose problems through systematic analysis.
5. Knowledge and understanding of electronic reporting programs for completion of quotes and trip reports.
6. Ability to understand basic mechanical and electronic engineering concepts and to fit and replace mechanical and electronic components in the field.
7. Demonstrable excellence in interpersonal communication and the ability to build lasting relationships and collaborations.
8. Drive, determination, and enthusiasm.
9. Experience in demonstrating, teaching, coaching.
10. Ability to work independently and responsibly as a commercial professional.
11. Ability to self-motivate and organize short-, medium-, and long-term work plans.
12. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
13. Ability to understand and clearly communicate product advantages and technical features.
14. Ability to understand customer applications.
15. Ability to create and confidently present commercial and scientific presentation materials in both open forum and face-to-face settings.
16. High degree of computer proficiency, with literacy in typical Microsoft programs and general email/internet search tools.
17. Ability to travel extensively for business purposes (expected travel > 40%), including to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the USA, with possible occasional visits to the Americas, Asia, and Australasia.
18. Deep knowledge and experience of laser ablation as a solid sample introduction technique is a distinct advantage, for example, a PhD or post-doc position having worked with the technique extensively.
19. Experience with LA-ICP-MS data processing software packages.
20. International travel experience.
21. Experience of product demonstrations is highly desirable.
22. PhD in analytical chemistry, geochemistry, or related field.
23. Experience in the scientific instruments business.
