Our client in the global professional services industry is seeking an External Communications Manager for an exciting opportunity to lead Sustainability and Purpose-driven communications for the UK business. This role will work closely with the CR&S, Environmental Sustainability, and Social Value teams to enhance external communications in these areas. It requires a blend of critical thinking, creativity, and influencing skills, along with a strong track record in communications and writing. The successful candidate will drive a steady stream of relevant content, showcasing programmes, activities, and client work to key stakeholders, including opinion formers, potential employees, media, analysts, and clients. This role includes access to agency resources and reports to the UK External Communications Lead.
What you will do:
- Define the overarching communication strategy for sustainability and purpose driven communications in the UK, across owned, earned and paid as part of the wider M&C communications programme, in alignment with local business objectives and Group’s vision.
- Establish close working relationships with internal CR&S and external sustainability and social value teams to maximise strategy impact.
- Responsible for the communication of UK’s own (CR&S) activities, specifically in the areas of Environmental Sustainability, Digital Inclusion and Diversity.
- Oversee the execution and delivery of the annual CR&S report for UK and execute a long tail launch strategy.
- Develop a clear plan to build external awareness of the local Centre of Excellence for sustainability and demonstrate the positive impact we deliver for the clients.
- Propose, develop, and implement communications with key CR&S partnerships.
- Monitor and propose opportunities to enhance the company’s brand reputation.
- Ensure a strong digital presence through a steady drumbeat of content, maintaining and promoting content via corporate and executive social media channels.
- Management of an agency resource to support in the creation of content.
- Work closely with the wider external Marketing and Communications community to enable them to amplify messages through their marketing and client engagements.
- Liaise with the network of marketing managers to identify opportunities to maximise visibility of sustainability and purpose driven work and messaging.
- Seek opportunities to help develop content to support corporate purpose positioning.
- Work closely with internal communications to support internal awareness to help drive sustainability and digital inclusion programme forward.
Qualifications:
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop effective messaging and communication strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Skilled in identifying target audiences and employing tactics that engage, inform and motivate them.
- Proficiency in traditional and digital communications.
- Demonstrated success in media relations.
- Ability to execute projects, involving and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders at every level.
- Proven experience in a senior communications role in-house and agency side.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines.
- Team player, with a ‘can do’ attitude, but also able to work on own initiative.
