We have an amazing opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join our Engineering team. Based in Milton Keynes, you will lead the embedded products team, overseeing the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to commercialization. This role requires a strong technical background in embedded products, coupled with exceptional leadership and project management abilities. Highly focused on our team of software developers, the role also encompasses hardware and electro-mechanical design requirements.

Engineers are the most important asset we have, and this role will require direct management of the development and project engineering staff. This role should support the continued development and training of our engineers.

The Engineering Manager will be working with requirements and business cases from our Product Management team. You will need to manage the development from feasibility to production release, as well as providing ongoing support. You will also work with company procedures to ensure engineering activities are maintained to the highest standards while looking for continuous improvement in processes and development activities to enhance the overall customer product and improve efficiency. Must be willing to experiment and take advantage of new techniques and technologies as they become commercially available.

Ensure products continuously meet National and International standards including their certification.

SWARCO has technology centres providing a centre of excellence in specific areas, and where applicable, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for liaising in a close working relationship to support developments either exclusively in the Technology Centres or more often joint developments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Build, develop, and lead a high-performing team of engineers. Provide mentorship, coaching, and career development opportunities.
  2. Oversee the entire product development process, design, development, testing, and launch.
  3. Possess a deep understanding of embedded systems, hardware/software integration, and relevant technologies.
  4. Effectively manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring on-time delivery and within budget.
  5. Implement and maintain rigorous quality standards and processes.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, procurement, and operations, to ensure alignment and achieve project goals.
  7. Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the development process.
  8. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks to project success.

Technical experience of traffic products areas should be considered an advantage but not strictly necessary.

What we are looking for

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering successful products, to timescale and budgets.
  3. Strong technical expertise in embedded products, including hardware/software integration, real-time operating systems, and low-level programming.
  4. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Experience of product certification CE/UKCA and Safety Standards.
  7. Full UK driver’s license is essential.
  8. Right to live and work in the UK.
