The role of the Electrical Control Room Operator is to ensure the safe delivery of electrical power to the railway infrastructure and maintain this supply at an optimal level. Working as part of a small team, you will follow detailed electrical instructions and regulatory requirements, liaise with response staff during electrical incidents and emergencies, and ensure power supplies are configured correctly as needed. You will analyze electrical diagrams, propose amendments, plan and implement electrical isolations, coordinate with maintenance teams, and liaise with HV energy supply companies for outage planning and alternative feeding arrangements. Additionally, you will monitor the railway's electrical infrastructure via supervisory systems across a large geographical area. The role requires maintaining the security integrity of the control system, adapting to ongoing competency assessments, and understanding complex electrical regulations. Note: This role involves shift work on a 24/7 basis, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays. CTC clearance is required before starting in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Work according to authorized electrification instructions.
- Handle electrical supply issues not covered by instructions safely, informing the appropriate engineer.
- Participate in competency assessments.
- Review and suggest amendments to isolation diagrams.
- Mentor and coach other ECROs.
Candidate Requirements
- Support roster requirements as outlined.
