The Team
Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG), part of KPMG Deal Advisory in the UK, has over 300 professionals and is recognized as a leading independent adviser in infrastructure. The group offers advice on strategic, financial, regulatory, and commercial issues for infrastructure investments globally, working closely with other KPMG functions.
Power & Utilities (P&U) is the largest IAG business area, serving major clients including UK utilities and large energy and water companies across Europe. We provide strategic and technical advice on various aspects including policy, finance, regulation, and strategy to create value for shareholders and customers. Our work influences the utilities sector significantly.
Our P&U division comprises 7 practices: Finance, Projects, Strategy, Regulation, Low Carbon, Transactions, and Benchmarking, with continuous growth. We seek high-quality candidates to support our expansion and service development.
The Role
Join as a Regulatory Finance Director, providing senior leadership to our regulatory finance team and contributing to business growth through client engagement and development of new services. Projects involve high-profile advisory work such as finance strategies, cost of capital estimation, CMA appeals, financial modelling, and regulatory mechanisms.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the regulatory finance team and contribute to sector teams.
- Participate in senior management for the Infrastructure Power & Utilities business.
- Build and maintain client relationships, becoming a key contact for regulatory finance issues.
- Manage client projects across the public and private sectors.
- Oversee the production of expert reports, financial models, and client presentations.
- Maintain technical expertise in energy, water sectors, and regulatory policies.
- Ensure quality and risk management standards are met.
- Perform performance management, coaching, and mentoring of staff.
- Serve as a role model aligning with firm values.
- Develop sector-specific market intelligence.
- Perform other duties as appropriate for a senior role.
The Person
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive experience in regulatory and corporate finance, ideally in water and energy sectors.
- Strong understanding of financial economics and practical application in utilities.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, risk quantification, and scenario modelling.
- Knowledge of credit rating methodologies and financial structuring in utilities.
- Experience in investment appraisal, financial modelling, and analysis of hurdle rates.
- Understanding of energy policy and economic regulation.
- Proven track record in professional services, leadership, and client development.
- Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder relationships.
- Deep understanding of utility value drivers, including policy, regulation, and markets.
- Strong client-facing skills, commercial awareness, and a proactive attitude.
