Job Description:

Who are we?

Here within the @one Alliance we are a totally collaborative organisation made up of our eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO) and our extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.

We are gearing up for our most exciting and challenging Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, this will see us deliver a programme of work larger than we’ve ever delivered before. We’ll be embarking on a new kind of project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

We are driving change, empowering us to set global benchmarks and build a better environment, with the opportunity to offer enhanced growth and development to our workforce. We’re looking to build on our existing teams with an environment built for career progression.

With such an exciting portfolio of projects planned for AMP8 to keep the water flowing across the region, our ability to manage our work and outperform against our customer’s expectations will come under greater scrutiny.

To remain at the forefront of the Water industry, our ability to work more efficiently by maximising our resources and engineering outputs both internally and externally will be under further scrutiny. With this in mind, we are looking for a Design Manager (Water WRMP) to join our Delivery team and deliver high quality resources and outputs to enhance technical design delivery efficiency.

What will you be doing as our new Design Manager in WRMP?

As our new Design Manager, you will deliver a programme of Water Treatment capital investment projects for WRMP, ranging in value from £500k to £54m, which typically comprise increasing capacity and improving resilience of existing Water Treatment Works, and enhancing groundwater abstraction.

We’ll look to you to develop new ways of working and solutions that focus on delivering outcomes, rather than outputs, to reduce carbon, protect and increase natural capital, address climate change, and embrace innovations and new digital technologies.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Lead Design Delivery: Manage and deliver water treatment projects, improving capacity, resilience, and groundwater abstraction. Oversee the design of water treatment projects, improving capacity and resilience across Water Treatment Works and groundwater abstraction systems.
  2. Team Leadership & Development: Develop, mentor, and inspire a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  3. Innovation & Sustainability: Drive solutions that reduce carbon, enhance natural capital, and embrace new digital technologies.
  4. Project Management & Collaboration: Work with internal and external stakeholders, including the Strategic Pipeline Alliance, to ensure timely, cost-effective project delivery. Delivery of technical aspects of the project in accordance with the plan. Work closely with the Project Design Manager to agree the technical resource required, working with Allocate design resources to portfolio design work with the principle of Best for Task.
  5. Health & Safety Compliance: Drive excellence in Health and Safety in design. Eliminate hazards and reduce risks during design.

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours…

To be considered for this exciting opportunity within the @one Alliance, you’ll have proven leadership in engineering design, a focus on sustainability, and a passion for innovation. You’ll hold a degree, HNC or HND in Engineering and have extensive experience in a technical role. You’ll demonstrate experience with the management of designs and multi-disciplinary projects and the capability to inspire, encourage and support others to achieve critical tasks and outcomes within non-infrastructure projects.

You’ll manage situations proactively, with the ability to think and plan ahead as well as owning excellent organisation skills in order to organise own and team’s workload and priorities. You’ll show resilience by maintaining energy and focus when under pressure and experiencing significant setbacks alongside being open to new challenges and provide the drive to continuous improvement.

If the opportunity to make a real difference in a nationally recognised and respected alliance appeals, and you’re looking to join a progressive team shaping the future of water treatment solutions – please apply today!
