Job Description:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Power Unit Integration group, covering a wide variety of assemblies throughout the F1 car.
Collaborating with the Group Principal and Head of Powertrain, you will be responsible for undertaking and guiding a range of designs from initial concepts through to prototype production working closely with other Engineering departments.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer , you will be responsible for:
- Concept design through to detailing of mechanical, hydraulic and composite components and assemblies on a wide variety of systems across the car.
- Carry out background stress and sizing calculations and produce supporting documentation.
- Conduct design reviews independently or with the Principal Engineer and Head of Department.
- Demonstrate significant experience to be drawn on by others and be a point of contact for engineering support.
- Complete end-to-end ownership for projects incorporating manufacture, build, testing and racing, including fault analysis and resolution requiring close collaboration with the wider team.
- Support checking of detailed drawings, including design review against specification and previous designs and competitor analysis.
- Drive continuous improvement and promote autonomous creativity.
Our ideal candidate is someone who has:
- An in-depth understanding of fundamental engineering principles and previous experience within a similar role within motorsport, aerospace or a related field.
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification supported by design experience in motorsport, aerospace or a related field.
- The ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritise work to varying deadlines.
- Strong CAD skills, ideally with experience of Siemens NX, however training will be provided for conversion from other CAD systems.
- Experience with simulation modelling and basic stress calculations.
- Data analysis experience would also be beneficial.
- A passion for engineering, innovation and detailed design work.
- Confidence, and is well organised with the ability to clearly prioritise tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.
