DEPUTY SCREENING COORDINATOR

OPPORTUNITY FOR BAND 6 MIDWIFE TO JOIN THE ANTENATAL SCREENING TEAM

An excellent opportunity to explore and expand knowledge and skills in the specialist area of Antenatal and Newborn screening within a supportive team of midwives, failsafe officer, and admin.

This role will involve:

  1. Monitoring the NIPE pathway and liaising with the relevant units where a baby is about to breach the 72 hours NIPE check
  2. Checking of booking bloods and identifying any missed screening via failsafes
  3. Counselling women with known positive HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis results and giving evidence-based advice on other infectious diseases to pregnant women
  4. Counselling women with abnormal screening results which includes haemoglobinopathies and screen positive Trisomy results (Downs, Edwards and Patau’s syndrome)

Main duties of the job

  1. Supporting fetal medicine team when required
  2. Participate in the mandatory teaching of midwives
  3. Coordinate the Newborn bloodspot records, action any concerns with failed/borderline results and liaise with Great Ormond Street Hospital
  4. Using and maintaining various databases (Excel/ Word/ Publisher), liaising with external stakeholders
  5. The deputy antenatal & newborn screening co-ordinator will work alongside the Antenatal & Newborn Screening Co-ordinator (ANSC) and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the provision and continuing effectiveness of a user-centred antenatal and newborn screening programme for all women accessing care through Barts Health NHS Trust.
  6. To support the ANSC in ensuring that all antenatal and newborn screening programmes meet national standards. To ensure robust antenatal and newborn screening programmes by assisting with collection and publication of data for Key Performance Indicators, Quality Assurance and the Trust annual report for antenatal screening.

Qualifications

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of continuous professional updating
  • Prep for Mentorship course or equivalent
  • Working towards BSc
