Job Description:
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and equipment to ensure continual access for our customers. We work on challenging problems with a diverse team of engineers, security experts, and operations staff. The Data Centre Chief Engineer (CE) ensures all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operates efficiently, managing maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency responses. The CE reports to the site’s Data Centre Facility Manager and interacts with onsite technicians and vendors. The role includes managing projects to improve resiliency and reduce costs, training staff, and ensuring safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance of data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Act as escalation point for facilities issues, supporting site stability.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Troubleshoot and report facility and server-level events.
- Create and implement standard practices and training for staff and vendors.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed.
- Communicate technical information effectively.
Physical Requirements:
- Walk uneven terrain, work at heights, lift up to 22kg, and perform physical tasks.
- Work in noisy environments and confined spaces.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Commutable to Thames Valley Region
- 4+ years in a data center or critical environment, or 8+ years with relevant technical training/experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in engineering or trades
- Operating licenses such as DC II, DC III
- Strong communication skills
