Venn Group’s public sector legal team is working with a London Local Authority, who are seeking a Criminal Litigation Lawyer to join their legal team on a locum basis. This role is ideal for a lawyer with solid experience in regulatory prosecutions and an ability to support both legal proceedings and internal governance functions.
Job Overview: The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of regulatory litigation and provide legal advice and representation across a broad range of criminal matters. Key Responsibilities:- Manage a caseload of regulatory prosecutions in the Magistrates’ and Crown Court, including planning enforcement, animal welfare, internal fraud, blue badge fraud, and EPA s80 matters
- Handle licensing appeals under the Licensing Act 2004 and property tribunal appeals under the Housing Act 2004
- Provide legal advice and support at Licensing Sub-Committee hearings
- Attend interim hearings in the Magistrates’ Court as required
- Assist with reviewing and advising on internal policies and governance documents
- Qualified solicitor, barrister, or FILEx Legal Executive with relevant experience in local authority enforcement and litigation
- Practical knowledge of licensing law, planning enforcement, and housing legislation
- Confident advocacy skills for court and committee hearings
- Ability to provide clear, concise legal advice and work effectively with council departments
- Strong drafting and organisational skills
