Job Description:

Working as part of a skillful multi-discipline team, Head Medical are seeking a Consultant Anaesthesia (General) to come to work for a leading private hospital in the UK.

Based in the town of Shepton Mallet, Somerset, as part of this professional, friendly, and compassionate team, you will do everything you can to ensure the patient’s treatment is of the highest standard. This organization focuses on ensuring that our patients receive high-quality treatment quickly, in clean and comfortable surroundings.

The town of Shepton Mallet, a few miles away from the Mendip Hills—an area of outstanding natural beauty—is perfect for those looking for tranquility. Nearby towns such as Wells and Glastonbury have high-ranking state and independent schools, and the towns of Castle Cary and others have direct train links to London.

As the successful appointee in this key role, you\’ll be anesthetizing patients for procedures ranging from ophthalmology to orthopedics, and from gynecology to general surgery. Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you\’ll also have the chance to get involved in administrative and managerial aspects of the department, and in the development of less experienced colleagues.

This is an elective role, except where a postoperative patient requires a return to theatre. You will also be required to attend OPD on a rota basis to assist in the pre-assessment of patients prior to surgery.

The post holder will be expected to have completed a substantial number of procedures independently, with an excellent clinical quality record and the ability to perform efficiently in theatre.

This is an opportunity to be part of an agile and innovative healthcare company that’s committed to introducing new ideas and ways of working. It offers a rewarding career as a key member of a caring team, with clinical, teaching, and staff development responsibilities.

A typical job plan comprises 40 hours of clinical activity per week, including occasional Saturdays, with flexible elements. Five hours of SPA are provided weekly, but employees are expected to work flexibly when colleagues are on leave, with rotas planned months in advance.

  • Extensive training courses accessible
  • Access to private health insurance
  • Four 10-hour days (extra PAs available)
  • 10 days of study leave
