Job Description:

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding geriatrician team at Southend Hospital. We are looking for a team player who can embrace new ways of working and take an active role in further developing our Older People’s Service.

Our Geriatric Service is a friendly, dynamic team, working to provide excellent clinical care across the whole spectrum of geriatric conditions. We work in close collaboration with our colleagues in Orthopaedics, Surgery, Oncology, General Medicine, and Rehabilitation.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and committed Consultant to join our well-regarded, supportive department to share in delivering and further developing our high-quality services. We are eager to support your professional development, and we expect you to be able to develop subspecialty interests.

Main duties of the job

As our Consultant, you will be responsible for delivering a dedicated programme of geriatric care, assuming responsibility for patients on Elderly Medicine wards with daily reviews and full consultant ward rounds. You will regularly review our patients proactively, coordinate care with allied specialties, and engage in multi-disciplinary meetings to direct patient care.

You will also provide specialist opinions to other hospital specialties as part of the frailty liaison service, participate in outpatient clinics supporting patient care within Geriatric Medicine in line with national standards and Care Quality Commission requirements, actively participate in developing innovative approaches to acute elderly care, and develop older people’s acute service pathways and outpatient clinics to facilitate the further development of our Frailty Assessment Unit. Additionally, you will actively participate in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
