Forming part of our Real Estate Department, the Construction team is a nationally recognised practice providing a complete range of legal and advisory services on all aspects of Construction law.

We advise on construction risk management from procurement to completion, including projects and dispute management across various sectors. Our team acts for private and public sector clients such as developers, healthcare providers, education institutions, transport authorities, main contractors, sub-contractors, and consultants. We work across sectors involved in commercial development, PRS, student accommodation, local government, transport, education, health, utilities, energy, and investment. From a non-contentious perspective, the Construction team drafts and negotiates all major standard forms of contract, including JCT and NEC4. From a contentious perspective, the team advises and acts on all forms of construction dispute resolution, including adjudication, arbitration, proceedings in the TCC, mediation, and expert determination.

We have been involved in projects ranging from multimillion-pound developments to high-value multi-party disputes.

We are currently recruiting for an NQ Solicitor to join our Construction team.

About your new role

Whilst Manchester is the preferred location, we will consider applications from other locations. You will manage a caseload of construction work, assist other team members, and work on behalf of clients involved in contentious and non-contentious construction matters.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Manage a caseload of construction work.
2. Assist team members with their caseloads of construction work (contentious and non-contentious).
3. Draft contracts, agreements, correspondence, pleadings, witness statements, instructions to counsel, attendance notes, and other related documents.
4. Advise and assist clients with disputes, risk management, and dispute resolution including adjudication and mediation.
5. Perform other case handling, advice, and duties as required.
6. Develop client relationships and business opportunities with team members.
7. Achieve set financial and chargeable targets (KPIs).
8. Ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
9. Comply with Weightmans and client policies and procedures.
10. Work in accordance with Weightmans’ and the client’s values.
