Your new role
As Commercial Director for Robertson Homes you’ll be responsible for:
- Timeously providing information to ensure the complete control and financial management of all costs.
- Monitoring and accurately forecasting these costs to maximise the Company’s overall profitability.
- Providing leadership and direction to the commercial team to deliver the project budgets through the economic use of the Company’s management, labour, plant, and materials to ensure maximum return from all construction operations.
- Supporting the company in achieving its budget and business plan through preparation, delivery, and commercial management projects.
- Input into the tendering process ensuring that commercial and contractual risks are identified through the qualification of the bid.
- Retaining involvement in contractual disputes affecting the company, providing leadership and support in achieving the best outcome for the company.
- Maintaining regular contact with live projects by regular visits, ensuring commercial teams are motivated to achieve company goals, and ensuring that sites utilise correct forecasting, planning, and resource management.
- Conducting cost/value investigations regularly on projects that display concerns in respect of programme slippage and issues of risk.
- Arranging/approving subcontractor appointments, in conjunction with company procedures ensuring regular and vigorous financial checks of the supply chain.
- Complying with the company SHE policies, procedures, safe systems of work, work instructions, and site rules.
- Ensuring projects are presented at all times in a way that underpins Robertson as a leading contractor in the provision of safe sites and quality welfare facilities.
- Ensuring development programmes are in place to continuously develop your people.
- Establishing an accurate cost value reporting system.
- Liaising closely with both buying and estimating departments to provide an accurate working cost base.
- Providing accurate land appraisals.
- Establishing and managing house type standard build costs.
- Ensuring appraisals and estimates are obtained timeously to allow site starts in accordance with budget forecasts.
- Assisting in the implementation of the strategic business plan, providing financial control and management of the overall business plan.
- Working with and ensuring the Financial Director is provided with accurate cost advice to ensure the overall management and control of the business.
About you:
You’ll ideally have previous Commercial Director experience in the Private House Building/Construction industry. You should hold a range of qualifications and certificates, such as a degree in Quantity Surveying or QBE, a valid CSCS card, and be a member of RICS, CIOB, or CEng. Ideally, you should also be ILM qualified. You’ll need to be comfortable with IT, including BIM 360, Power Asta, and Asite software, and most importantly be able to demonstrate people leadership and effective communication with all internal teams and externally with architects, engineers, clients, and sub-contractors at all levels. A full driving license is required, and you must be able to commit to traveling to the North East of England on a monthly basis.
