CHP Maintenance Engineer – Natural Gas systems
An industry leading Renewable Energy company is looking to recruit a CHP engineer experienced in natural gas reciprocating engines.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Engineer specializing in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems with a focus on natural gas applications. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our CHP systems, specifically those powered by natural gas.
- Location: Liverpool, Bristol (covering locations in between South Wales to Lake District)
- Full access to a company vehicle (Van), Laptop & tools will be provided.

The company: We are a versatile all-round CHP maintenance provider who can provide high-level technical support. Since launching, the company has provided direct support to several CHP providers and manufacturers as well as securing its own long-term maintenance agreements with end customers.
The company is based in Suffolk and initially provided coverage to the east of England and London. Due to an increase in the number of enquiries, we now offer our services nationwide and have completed projects from Scotland down to Cornwall.
The role:
A CHP (Combined Heat and Power) Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Combined Heat and Power systems. Combined Heat and Power, also known as cogeneration, is a process where electricity and useful thermal energy (such as steam or hot water) are produced simultaneously from the same energy source. CHP systems are commonly used in industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and some residential settings.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities on CHP systems utilizing natural gas as the primary fuel source.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and mechanical issues in CHP equipment, including generators, engines, turbines, and associated control systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute scheduled maintenance shutdowns, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system efficiency.
- Perform upgrades and modifications to CHP systems to enhance their performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, providing rapid and effective solutions to minimize disruptions in CHP system operation.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to proactively implement improvements and ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with procurement and vendors to source high-quality replacement parts and equipment for CHP systems.
- Conduct training sessions for junior maintenance staff and assist in developing standard operating procedures.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years’ experience and qualifications in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of CHP systems, with a focus on natural gas applications.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, control systems, and instrumentation associated with CHP technology.
- Familiarity with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet maintenance schedules.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations for emergency response.
