Studio PDP is seeking a Building Regulations Principal Designer to work within and alongside our design teams. The role involves providing consultancy on CDM and Building Regulations, supporting internal and external projects, and supporting our Health and Safety Director.
We believe a design-oriented architectural practice is ideal for delivering proactive principal designer services that address project challenges and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise project teams and clients on Building Regulations and CDM Regulations, fulfilling the duties of a principal designer.
- Work closely with clients to implement Building and CDM Regulations and maintain management arrangements.
- Support design teams by promoting best practices and applying prevention principles.
- Review projects to ensure proportionate regulatory compliance.
- Identify and manage hazards related to CDM scope.
- Conduct site visits and produce reports as needed.
- Develop guidance materials on regulatory principles.
- Provide training to internal and external teams.
- Understand scope, application, and format of Building Regulations and Approved Documents.
- Assess the competency of designers and contractors.
- Liaise with enforcing authorities when necessary.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Familiarity with construction industry practices in design and procurement.
- Professional qualification to ARB, CIAT, or CIOB standards.
- Membership of APS is a bonus.
- Registration or progress towards registration as a Building Regulations Principal Designer.
- Over 5 years’ experience as a Principal Designer under CDM across various sectors.
- Ability to present and motivate large groups.
- Ability to conceptualise future human interaction with designs.
- Training on the Building Safety Act and related legislation.
- Knowledge of Approved Documents and their application.
- Experience with CDM across sectors.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and proficient in MS Office and BIM.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Project management experience in consultancy services.
- Understanding of risk management and the new building control regime is advantageous.
