Grass Valley is looking for an experienced Video/Broadcast Engineer to work embedded at one of our major global broadcast customers. This position will report on a day-to-day basis to the Engineering department of our customer, whose identity will be disclosed during the interview process.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for Research, Design, Documentation, Installation, Commissioning and Test of virtualized compressed IP-based video origination and distribution systems, along with related sub-systems for linear and streaming delivery via satellite and terrestrial fiber.
  • Responsible for end-to-end fulfillment of assigned projects and tasks, including installation, configuration and commissioning of video equipment and software applications.
  • Coordinates in-house and third-party resources to fulfill system integration tasks for documentation, fabrication and installation.
  • Collaborates with in-house technical support teams to perform system acceptance testing and training.

Basic Qualifications:

  • The candidate must possess the following knowledge, experience, and talents:
  • Experience in the design, build, and commissioning of technical systems for broadcast playout, distribution, and live streaming via IP.
  • Knowledge of baseband HD/SD video, compressed video/audio encoding, IP transport stream distribution, in-band and out-of-band metadata payloads, OTT streaming architecture, and IP networking principles including multicast.
  • Proven ability to test and qualify compressed video transport streams and compression technologies at the packet level, including MPEG-4 H.264, HEVC H.265, MPEG-2 and JPEG-2000.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, test tools and applications used in the acceptance testing of compressed video streams.

Additional Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following preferred technical skills, professional qualities, additional knowledge, and experience:
  • Knowledge and experience in scripting, process automation, data acquisition, measurement and analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with video encryption and conditional access systems for content protection, broadcast and infrastructure monitoring and control systems, and Ethernet network topologies.
  • Familiarity with digital Ad Insertion systems, Targeted Advertisement signaling and video industry protocols such as SCTE-104 and SCTE-35.
  • Familiarity with industry developments in key technical areas of standardization and can articulate benefits/risks of various technology solutions.
  • Familiarity with Agile project management tools and techniques such as SCRUM and JIRA.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage assigned projects to tight timelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform technical analysis, exercise judgment, communicate with clarity and influence key technical decisions.
  • Possesses understanding of the modern video technology landscape including broadcast and streaming media.
  • Remains grounded in scientific method and objective analysis, representing a disciplined engineering approach at all times.
  • Maintains an awareness of best practices in the technology industry and implements forward-looking best of breed solutions.
