Due to the ongoing success of this initiative, we are currently looking for highly skilled and motivated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Engineers to join an international team shaping a sustainable and resilient energy future.

Position Overview: We are looking for highly skilled and experienced BESS Engineers to join our UK team. Working at Principal or Technical Director level, you will provide crucial support to our Australian business delivering transformative energy storage projects for a diverse range of energy and industrial clients. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering innovative and resilient BESS solutions powering the future of energy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cross-Regional Collaboration: Work closely with our Australian business, ensuring seamless project execution under our global service delivery model.
  • Leadership and Direction: Lead and inspire teams delivering high-impact projects, fostering excellence in all aspects of BESS design and engineering.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide advanced technical input to address BESS challenges and opportunities, developing and implementing solutions from conceptual stage through to detailed engineering.
  • Concept / Detailed Design: Lead the preparation and review of concept and detailed design deliverables, including layouts, SLDs, communication block diagrams, P&IDs, functional descriptions and operating philosophies.
  • Feasibility and Optimisation: Spearhead feasibility studies and capital estimates, undertaking techno-economic modelling and optimisation / sizing studies for microgrids and hybrid systems (solar, wind and BESS installed capacity based on site and network constraints).
  • Vendor Equipment Management: Lead key equipment vendor selection processes, ensuring that selected vendors meet project requirements and standards.
  • Site Engagement: Conduct condition site inspections of energy storage assets during and at the completion of projects. This includes creating and populating Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Project Management: Oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and key point of contact for technical expertise and project delivery.
  • Business Development: Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations and the expansion of GHD’s portfolio in the energy sector.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, energy systems or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in BESS engineering at a Principal or Technical Director level.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) desirable.
  • Deep knowledge of battery technologies, energy management systems and power electronics.
  • Proficiency in design software and simulation tools.
  • Proven track record of leading complex projects, with a strong focus on technical excellence, client satisfaction and commercial success.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and deliver innovative solutions in high-pressure environments.
  • Adept at navigating the regulatory landscape and ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of cross-regional working / global service delivery models.
