Venture outside the ordinary - TMX Careers. The TMX group of companies includes leading global exchanges such as the Toronto Stock Exchange, Montreal Exchange, and numerous innovative organizations enhancing capital markets. United as a global team, we're connecting cross-functionally, traversing industries and geographies, moving opportunity into action, advancing global economic growth, and propelling progress.

We are seeking an innovative, highly analytical, and detail-oriented Index Product Developer to join our growing London team. In this role, you will be the architectural force behind new, rules-based investment strategies and custom benchmarks that power Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) and structured products globally.

Reporting to the Head of Index Product, Europe, you will own the index product development lifecycle from end to end—from initial client ideation and methodology construction to rigorous quantitative backtesting and operational handover. Leveraging VettaFi's robust data environment and calculation engines, you will partner directly with asset managers, investment banks and institutional clients to translate complex market concepts into scalable, tradable index solutions. This role will require the ability to manage timelines and work with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of new products to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Index Design & Construction: Conceptualize and develop bespoke index methodologies across multiple asset classes (with a focus on thematic, factor and custom equity indices), ensuring they meet precise client objectives and regulatory standards. Define rules for weighting algorithms, rebalancing schedules, and the treatment of complex corporate actions.
  • Client Engagement: Act as the technical subject matter expert during client consultations. Conduct market research and analysis to identify customer needs and market trends.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to define product requirements, features, and functionality.
  • Methodology Governance: Author clear, comprehensive, and precise index methodology rulebooks. Manage the product testing and validation process to ensure highest product quality.
  • Operational Integration: Collaborate tightly with internal teams to transition new indices from the testing phase into live, daily calculation.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience in the financial services industry, specifically focused on index product development, quantitative asset management, or structured products.

Technical & Market Skills

  • Financial Mechanics: Deep understanding of index mechanics, portfolio construction, factor investing, and corporate events (dividends, splits, M&A).
  • ETF Ecosystem: Strong familiarity with the global ETF landscape, tradable instruments, and the specific liquidity requirements needed to create replicable indices.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be comfortable defending quantitative decisions to technical peers while smoothly explaining product mechanics to non-technical clients and sales teams.
  • Programming Proficiency: Experience in Python and strong knowledge of SQL for database querying. You will need to write code to support back-testing, reconstitutions and client facing analytic tools.
  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional attention to detail. You must possess a "zero-defect" mindset when validating data, calculating historical returns, and drafting legal methodology documents.

In the market for...

  • Excitement: Explore emerging technology and innovation, as well as ventures and digital finance that shape the future of global markets!
  • Connection: With site hubs in some of the world's most multicultural cities, we leverage our size and structure to create rich connections and belonging while experiencing powerful global impact through our work.
  • Impact: More than a platform, we use our talents to power mission-critical systems that drive global economic advancement, innovation, and growth.
