About the Role
The Network and Data Center Technician is responsible for general data center maintenance duties, including cabling and wiring installations, supervising external vendors, and documenting changes. The position is primarily based at our Markham location.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee all electrical and mechanical preventative maintenance; coordinate work with external contractors and manage physical access.
- Provision data centre space, power, and cooling for all new hardware requirements.
- Installation and decommission of all data centre equipment; update all inventory documentation.
- Install copper/fiber cable in our data centres; update all documentation of network cabling.
- Monitor data centre site conditions; complete inspections and coordinate corrective activities with external contractors as required.
- Work within internal change and incident processes to execute all work within a documented process.
- Coordinate with property management groups regarding building systems that impact TMX data centres (e.g., power and chilled water system shutdowns).
- Provide monthly and ad‑hoc reporting for data centre infrastructure.
Must Haves
- Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Information Technology, Networking, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of cable management, cable installation, and data centre equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of server hardware configurations; ability to assemble and repair server equipment.
- Ability to document, record and track changes using tracking systems.
- Excellent judgement and decision‑making ability, especially in critical situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills; role requires regular documentation updates.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment; troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills required.
- Collaborative team player.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently and in a timely manner.
- Ability to lift and move large equipment safely.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in a mission‑critical data centre facility.
- Solid understanding of network architecture, design and implementation.
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and their use in a data centre.
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment systems (CRAC, CRAH, evaporative cooling).
Position Details
- Working hours: 2 pm to 10 pm EST, Monday to Friday. Overtime may be required on occasional weekends.
- Location: 3500 Steeles Avenue East, Markham, ON. Occasional requirements to work at other office/data centre locations.
Compensation
Salary Range: $28/h – $32/h CAD. Please note the salary range is a guideline only; the salary offered may vary based on factors, including, but not limited to, the successful candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
