To support our continued growth and ensure the smooth operation of our high-speed production facility, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team. Job Purpose As Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and repair of machinery in our bottle blowing, filling, and processing lines. You will work independently, proactively responding to breakdowns and carrying out preventative maintenance tasks to minimise downtime and maintain product quality and output efficiency. Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair * Conduct both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on bottle blowing, filling, and processing machinery. * Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs with minimal supervision. * Ensure machines are maintained to operate at optimal performance levels, reducing unplanned downtime. * Respond quickly to breakdowns and take appropriate corrective action. * Monitor machinery and production processes, recommending and implementing improvements where necessary. Autonomous Decision-Making * Make independent decisions during night shifts to maintain safe and efficient operations in the absence of senior management. * Prioritise tasks effectively based on production needs and urgency of breakdowns. * Escalate major issues appropriately, but demonstrate sound judgement in handling most routine matters independently. Health & Safety * Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. * Ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations. * Conduct risk assessments and support site safety audits as required. Documentation & Reporting * Maintain accurate maintenance logs, including work completed, parts used, and downtime analysis. * Report recurring issues or potential risks to the Engineering Manager * Ensure all maintenance work is carried out in line with company quality standards and audit requirements. Collaboration & Communication * Handover critical information and unresolved issues to the incoming shift and engineering team. * Work closely with production supervisors, operators, and quality teams to ensure smooth night operations. Skills & Experience Required Essential: * Time-served engineer with relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering). * Proven experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. * Strong understanding of bottle blowing, filling, and processing machinery (ideally in FMCG or personal care sectors). * Able to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical/mechanical schematics, and engineering drawings. * Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills. * Comfortable working independently and making decisions under pressure. * Flexible, proactive, and results-oriented mindset. Desirable: * Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems. * Basic PLC fault-finding knowledge. * Previous experience in the wellbeing, bodycare, or cosmetics industry. * Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.
