As our business continues to grow, we are looking to recruit a Junior Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of a diverse portfolio of power, utility, and renewable energy projects.

Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual looking to build a career in Quantity Surveying and commercial management within the power and renewable energy sectors. Working alongside experienced commercial and project management professionals, you will gain hands-on exposure to all aspects of project commercial management, supporting the delivery of substations, grid connections, battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar developments, and other energy infrastructure projects. The role offers structured development, mentoring, and practical experience across contract administration, procurement, cost management, forecasting, and project reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and administration of subcontract agreements and purchase orders
  • Support the management of contract documentation and commercial records
  • Assist in assessing subcontractor applications for payment and valuations
  • Support monthly cost reporting and project financial monitoring
  • Help prepare project cost forecasts and cash flow projections
  • Assist in the identification and administration of Early Warning Notices (EWNs), Compensation Events (CENs), and variations
  • Support procurement activities, including obtaining and evaluating subcontractor quotations
  • Assist with the preparation of client applications, invoices, and supporting documentation
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to monitor project performance
  • Attend project meetings and contribute to commercial reporting
  • Undertake site visits to gain an understanding of project progress and construction activities

Experience & Skills Required

Essential

  • 1 to 3 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying or Commercial construction-related role
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a fast-paced project environment
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle, with willingness to travel to project sites

Desirable

  • Experience within construction, utilities, civil engineering, power, or renewable energy sectors
  • Exposure to subcontractor management and payment processes
  • Understanding of project cost control, forecasting, and reporting
  • Knowledge of procurement and tendering processes
  • Contract Knowledge
  • Working knowledge or exposure to the following would be advantageous: NEC Contracts, FIDIC Contracts, Bespoke and amended forms of contract

Training and support will be provided to develop contract administration skills and commercial understanding.

Qualifications

Degree or other qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Candidates currently studying towards a relevant qualification are encouraged to apply. Professional development towards RICS, CICES, or other recognised industry memberships will be supported.
