We are seeking an experienced, proactive and highly organised Health & Safety Lead / Estates Manager. This is a key role responsible for ensuring a safe, compliant and well‑maintained learning environment for our students, staff and visitors. Working across our college sites, you will lead on all aspects of health & safety, estates management, facilities oversight and statutory compliance, helping to create an environment where young people with Special Educational Needs can thrive. The successful candidate will take ownership of the college's health & safety culture and estates operations, ensuring the premises are safe, secure, compliant and fit for purpose at all times. You will work closely with senior leaders, external contractors and support teams to manage planned maintenance, compliance schedules, site development and operational risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all health & safety functions across the college
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and regulatory standards
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits and inspections
  • Develop and maintain health & safety policies, procedures and training
  • Oversee estates and facilities management, including maintenance and repairs
  • Manage contractor compliance and site works
  • Monitor statutory checks and compliance records including fire safety, asbestos, water hygiene and electrical testing
  • Lead on emergency procedures, incident reporting and business continuity planning
  • Support the development of a positive safety culture across the organisation
  • Manage estates budgets and procurement relating to facilities and compliance
  • Ensure the college environment remains welcoming, accessible and appropriate for learners with additional needs

Skills & Qualifications

  • Has significant experience in health & safety and/or estates management
  • Has strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and compliance requirements
  • Is confident managing contractors, maintenance schedules and site projects
  • Has excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Can work independently and prioritise effectively
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and inclusive practice within education
  • Experience within education, healthcare, care settings or SEN environments would be advantageous
