TML Recruitment are exclusively partnered with one of the fastest-growing and most progressive property consultancies in the UK. We are working directly with this firm to recruit a Partner – Business Rates, who will play a key/lead role in delivering their ambitious growth plans across the UK.
With multiple offices in all major cities, our client offers the flexibility to be based out of their London or Birmingham offices (with travel to London once per week). The business has a clear vision: to become one of the leading rating teams in the country. They aim to achieve this by hiring best-in-class professionals and leveraging their already excellent reputation across various service lines throughout the UK and an extensive caseload.
Who is our client?
Our client is a highly respected, multi-disciplinary property practice operating across the UK’s major cities and regions. They are driven by their people, prioritising employee happiness and career development. The firm is committed to hiring top talent nationwide, and their ongoing growth plans are both ambitious and impressive. With this in mind, they are now seeking a Partner – Business Rates, or potentially an established Associate/Partner who feels undervalued or under-promoted. The current team is small yet agile, with significant plans to expand.
What will you be doing?
You will work closely with the National Managing Partner to grow and develop the business unit, which currently comprises four surveyors and business development professionals. Working towards set goals and financial targets, you will have access to a high-quality client base, including international retail brands, major leisure and hospitality companies, industrial and self-storage firms, and general commercial office clients.
The work will be varied, with a primary focus on investor-side clients, although there is scope to expand occupier-side work. Given the firm’s busy pipeline, your workload will span the UK, with a strong emphasis on Central London and the South East. With significant untapped business opportunities nationwide, you will be responsible for devising strategies to increase fees and win new business through the firm’s existing client base.
What is needed to be successful?
- Substantial rating appeal experience, including the preparation and submission of checks, challenges, and appeals.
- Experience of settlements or appearances at the Valuation Tribunal and/or Lands Tribunal.
- A clear understanding of business rates legislation and case law.
- Ideally a Member or Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), or IRRV-qualified, and possibly a Registered Valuer.
- A proven track record of building and developing client portfolio relationships – or at minimum, a strong desire to do so.
- A keen interest in developing a business unit, with a team-first mentality.
- A desire to mentor and lead a team.
