At tmGroup, we're taking conveyancing into a brighter, smarter, and simpler future with our award-winning technology. From instant quote tools and seamless onboarding to comprehensive searches and risk management, we use data, technology, and expertise to help our clients move forward with confidence.

We're looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team at an exciting point in its development. Under our Group Financial Controller, the team has made real strides in improving process and confidence in the numbers - closing month end faster than ever, with greater validation behind the figures. There's a lot more still to build, and this role will be right at the centre of it.

This is a part-qualified position, ideally suited to someone with an audit or practice background looking to make the move into a commercial, in-house environment. You won't be pulled into day-to-day month-end - instead, you'll get real exposure to Group reporting, the year-end audit process, and hands-on investigative work into our billing engine, where there's genuine scope to explore, question, and add value. Full study support (including exam leave) is provided if you're working towards ACCA/ACA.

You’ll report directly to our Group Financial Controller, working alongside the wider Finance team, with the opportunity over time to get involved in statutory accounts preparation and broader commercial projects as your experience develops.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the Group Financial Controller in coordinating the external audit, acting as day-to-day point of contact for auditors and managing queries through to resolution.
  • Help prepare supporting audit files for the annual statutory financial statements, including disclosures and intercompany accounting, and document clear, well-evidenced technical accounting advice under UK GAAP (FRS 102) and, where appropriate, IFRS.
  • Get involved in month-end reporting processes such as Group intercompany reconciliations and preparation of the consol file, building your commercial awareness along the way.
  • Support the assessment of new or unusual transactions and key judgemental areas - revenue recognition, accruals and deferred income, and provisions - ensuring conclusions are clearly documented and audit defensible.
  • Keep up to date with changes in accounting standards and flag any relevant impact to the team.
  • Help maintain and improve the financial control framework, identifying control weaknesses and process inefficiencies and supporting remediation.
  • Collaborate with wider Finance, Search Production and Tech teams to ensure consistent, aligned reporting - including investigating discrepancies within the billing engine.
  • Support the Group Financial Controller on VAT returns and other statutory and external reporting requirements and work with the Systems Accountant on finance system changes.

About you:

  • Part-qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent), with an audit or practice background especially welcome.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102); a working understanding of IFRS is an advantage, as our Group reports under IFRS.
  • Demonstrable experience of coordinating or supporting an external audit process – from practice or a similar in-house role.
  • A sound understanding of financial controls and reconciliation disciplines.
  • Good attention to detail, with a curious, investigative approach to understanding the numbers.
  • A clear, confident communicator, comfortable raising issues proactively both within the team and with the wider business.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, PE-backed environment as a proactive, vocal member of the team.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central and/or Cognos.
  • An interest in developing more commercially over time, with an eye on broader involvement in statutory accounts and cross-business projects.

What we offer:

  • Circa £30,000 - £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Study support package, including exam leave, for ACCA/ACA.
  • Hybrid working - 3 days per week in our Swindon office, with flexibility for the rest.
  • 25 days holiday (increasing with service) and holiday purchase scheme, private health (after qualifying period), pension, life assurance.
  • Flexible benefits scheme covering financial, wellness, legal, and medical support.
  • Rewards platform with a wide range of perks and options.
  • Free parking on site with breakfast options and fresh fruit provided.
  • Scope to grow into statutory accounts preparation and broader commercial projects as your experience develops.
  • A supportive, collaborative Finance team on a clear improvement journey, with plenty of opportunity to make your mark.
