Role Context

Amongst other services, TMF Group delivers HR and Payroll services to clients around the world. Central to the provisioning of these services is a market-leading technology landscape and proposition. As part of this proposition, we are building and deploying a new, custom-developed Client system-of-engagement (Optix) which will act as the key interface to all clients globally as part of Project Cobalt. With the development of this platform well underway, we are now looking at testing to build our testing team to ensure we have a functioning product that is successfully deployed to clients.

Role Overview

The Test Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing the testing process across The Cobalt programme. This includes developing and delivering the test strategy, leading the testing team, ensuring quality assurance best practices are followed, and ensuring the software meets required specifications and user expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive test strategy across all phases of programme testing inc. unit, product, business acceptance, client acceptance, performance, penetration and regression. Define a comprehensive test plan in collaboration with development teams and user groups. Define testing methods, tools and metrics. Define and deliver automated testing where possible. Ensure the production of test scripts, preparation of test data and collation of test evidences. Collaborate with project managers, developers, and business analysts to understand project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Quality Assurance: Define and enforce quality standards and best practices for software testing. Ensure test coverage and accuracy in functional, integration, regression, and performance testing. Identify risks and work to mitigate them in the testing process.
  • Test Execution and Reporting: Oversee the execution of test cases and resolution of test defects, driving both to timely and quality expectations. Generate and present test reports, including test execution status, defect reports, and other metrics to senior management. Analyze and interpret testing results and make recommendations for improvements. Guide defect prioritization based on an understanding of the programme objectives and solutions.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve testing processes and methodologies. Ensure timely completion of testing within project deadlines. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and new testing tools and techniques.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Act as a liaison between the testing team and other departments (development, product management, etc.). Provide regular updates to stakeholders and to program governance on the status of testing activities. Communicate testing challenges and suggest solutions to ensure the quality of the product.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience across multiple types of testing.
  • Proven experience as a Test Manager or similar role in software testing, working across multiple and globally disperse teams.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies, tools, and best practices (manual and automation testing).
  • Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
