We are looking for an Assistant Curator of Television to join the BFI’s Curatorial department. This role will be part of the team which cares for, curates and manages the television collections within the BFI National Archive. The BFI National Archive is home to the National Television Archive and has been collecting television materials since the 1950s. The team is responsible for contemporary collecting from independent public service broadcasters and streaming partners, as well as the historical television collections which are held on a variety of film, video and digital formats.
Key responsibilities include:
- To appraise, document and care for the physical television collections within the BFI National Archive.
- Develop research and conservation plans for physical television collections within the Archive.
- Accession and document new acquisitions of historical television materials to the Archive, in collaboration with the Curators.
- To undertake research into the television collection and to work with academics and researchers.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Experience of moving image archiving or other appropriate form of heritage collections management.
- Demonstrable knowledge and enthusiasm for British television history and familiarity with the UK television industry.
- Experience of handling and identifying film materials.
- Demonstrable knowledge of historical video formats and digital moving image preservation standards.
