Sustainability Lead
M40 Corridor
£50,000 – £75,000 + package
Our client is a leading main contractor delivering major construction and technical projects across the UK. They are seeking a Sustainability Lead to join their team and play a key role in driving environmental and sustainability performance across their portfolio.
The successful candidate will act as the project sustainability subject matter expert — supporting construction operations, guiding project teams through BREEAM, LEED and Low Carbon Construction requirements, and ensuring the business continues to build in line with its sustainability strategy,
Responsibilities
Project Compliance
- Serve as the key contact for assigned projects, providing sustainability and environmental guidance to construction teams.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of internal sustainability and environmental training.
- Monitor and report monthly on project sustainability performance and progress.
- Support teams with planning conditions and sustainability KPIs.
- Undertake site visits and inspections to ensure compliance and promote best practice.
- Produce project environmental and sustainability documentation such as Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and Pollution Incident Response Plans.
Building & Project Certification
- Support teams in understanding and achieving certification targets (BREEAM, LEED).
- Engage with the supply chain to ensure certification evidence is gathered on time.
- Manage and maintain certification trackers to ensure compliance and auditability.
- Act as the main point of contact for clients and consultants regarding certification progress and requirements.
- Identify and escalate risks to meeting certification targets.
- Share knowledge and promote process improvement across the business for BREEAM and other certifications.
Sustainability Strategy
- Support the Head of ESG with delivery and performance monitoring of the company’s sustainability strategy.
- Integrate sustainability objectives into day-to-day project operations.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Environmental Management System and ESG documentation.
- Champion continuous improvement and drive sustainability initiatives across the business.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of sustainability standards and frameworks such as BREEAM, LEED, and ISO 14001.
- Experience working on construction projects with a sustainability or environmental focus.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Relevant environmental or sustainability qualifications (IEMA, BREEAM Assessor, or equivalent) are advantageous.
