Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + Package

Our client is a leading technical construction specialist delivering complex projects across sectors including advanced manufacturing, logistics, food, pharmaceuticals and data centres. With a strong commitment to responsible construction and environmental performance, they are seeking a Sustainability Lead to support live projects and drive best practice across operations.

This is a predominantly site-based role, supporting operational teams and working closely with project leadership to ensure sustainability objectives and certification requirements are achieved.

The Role

The Sustainability Lead will act as the subject matter expert for environmental and sustainability matters on assigned construction projects. You will provide technical guidance to project teams, ensuring compliance with planning conditions, certification standards and wider ESG objectives. You will collaborate with internal teams, clients, consultants and supply chain partners to ensure sustainable and compliant outcomes aligned with project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the key sustainability contact for assigned construction projects.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to project teams on environmental and sustainability matters.
  • Support projects in meeting environmental, social and sustainability planning conditions and KPIs.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure compliance and best practice.
  • Prepare and communicate project environmental documentation, including Construction Environmental Management Plans and Pollution Incident Response Plans.
  • Report monthly to project teams on sustainability and environmental performance.
  • Deliver or support internal sustainability and environmental training initiatives.
  • Support project teams in achieving certification targets such as BREEAM and LEED.
  • Engage with the supply chain to ensure certification evidence is gathered and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance and certification trackers to ensure a robust and auditable trail of evidence.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients and consultants regarding certification progress.
  • Identify and escalate risks relating to certification requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across projects.
  • Support delivery of wider ESG and sustainability strategy objectives.
  • Integrate sustainability goals into operational practices.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of environmental management systems and ESG documentation.
  • Support performance evaluation and sustainability reporting activities.

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree qualification in Environmental Management, Sustainability, ESG or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience providing sustainability or environmental support within the construction or built environment sector.
  • Experience supporting BREEAM, LEED or similar certification processes.
  • Strong report writing and data handling capability, including sustainability metrics and emissions reporting.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • BREEAM or LEED Accredited Professional status.
  • ISO14001 Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience leading certification assessments.
  • Experience undertaking environmental or social impact assessments.
  • Experience with lifecycle carbon assessments and tools such as OneClick.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA, IES).
