A leading UK main contractor operating across Data Centres, Industrial & Advanced Manufacturing projects is seeking a Principal Sustainability Lead – Building Certifications. This is a senior, business-critical position responsible for owning and delivering all LEED, BREEAM and WELL building certifications across the organisation’s project portfolio.
The Role
- You will act as the company’s technical authority for building certifications, leading all certification pathways from early design through construction, commissioning and final submission.
- Working closely with project teams, design consultants and clients, you will ensure that certification strategies are defined, implemented and successfully delivered on every scheme.
- You will support multiple major construction projects (predominantly mission‑critical, industrial and high‑tech) and will be the person responsible for guaranteeing certification compliance, maintaining evidence trails, and guiding teams through the entire certification lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full lifecycle of BREEAM, LEED and WELL certifications across the company’s project portfolio.
- Develop project certification strategies and advise teams on compliance, evidence, design integration and programme impact.
- Manage certification trackers, documentation, assessments and submissions.
- Engage proactively with clients, assessors, design teams and supply chain to ensure certification requirements are understood and met.
- Conduct site visits to review environmental performance, evidence collection and certification alignment.
- Provide guidance and training to project teams on sustainability best practice and certification pathways.
- Identify risks to certification delivery and support teams in implementing corrective actions.
- Contribute to company‑wide sustainability initiatives and the continuous improvement of certification processes and standards.
About You
- Strong experience delivering BREEAM, LEED or WELL certifications in a construction environment.
- Experience working for a main contractor on projects such as Data Centres, Industrial Facilities, Logistics, Pharma or Manufacturing.
- Excellent knowledge of certification documentation, evidence collection and assessment procedures.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid capacity across office, home and live construction sites.
- Based along the M1 corridor / North London with willingness to travel to sites.
- BREEAM AP, LEED AP or WELL AP accreditation.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving sustainability outcomes across complex projects.
- Familiarity with LCA, carbon assessments or environmental management systems.
