About the Company

Established and highly respected civil engineering and groundworks contractor delivering large-scale residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects across the Midlands. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured works, they are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Derby.

The Role

The Quantity Surveyor will take commercial responsibility for multiple groundworks and civil engineering schemes from pre-construction through to final account. Working closely with operational teams, clients, and subcontractors, you will ensure projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong commercial control throughout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing commercial aspects of multiple groundworks projects
  • Preparation and submission of valuations and applications for payment
  • Cost reporting and forecasting
  • Procurement and management of subcontractors
  • Variations management and negotiation
  • Preparation of interim and final accounts
  • Monitoring project costs and identifying commercial risks
  • Supporting operational teams with commercial advice
  • Maintaining strong client relationships
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within budget and margin targets

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within groundworks or civil engineering
  • Strong understanding of NEC and JCT contracts
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical ability
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • Experience working on residential infrastructure and roads & sewers packages
  • Previous experience with a specialist groundworks contractor
