Job Description

Quantity Surveyor

Location: Edgware

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + package (car allowance, bonus, pension, healthcare)

Contract Type: Permanent

Sector: Main Contractor – Commercial Build

A leading main contractor is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team, delivering high-quality commercial build schemes ranging from £40m to £120m in value. The company is recognised for its structured project delivery, long-standing client relationships and technical excellence across large-scale construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and assess multiple quotations from the supply chain for all domestic work packages
  • Ensure enquiry documentation is comprehensive and aligned with contractual requirements
  • Carry out commercial assessment of subcontractor quotations with the site team
  • Support contract preparation and execution, including insurance, bonds and warranties
  • Ensure proper subcontract orders are placed in line with authorisation levels
  • Prepare and submit interim valuations and variations in accordance with client contracts
  • Assess and authorise subcontractor payments and invoices
  • Manage debt collection in collaboration with the accounts team
  • Support final account agreements and cost reporting procedures
  • Ensure strong commercial governance, record-keeping, and risk management across projects
  • Liaise with project teams to provide commercial insight and updates
  • Work closely with estimating and pre-construction teams on cost planning and tender returns

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience delivering commercial construction projects above £10m
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, procurement, and contractual compliance
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and commercial management systems (COINS or similar preferred)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and maintain strong attention to detail
