Due to continued growth and major project wins across the Midlands, the business is now looking to appoint a Pre-Construction Design Manager to be based out of their Birmingham office.
The Opportunity: As a Pre-Construction Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the early design and planning stages of large-scale commercial developments (£50M – £250M). Working closely with bid teams, planners, architects, consultants, and clients, you will shape project designs that are not only technically robust but also commercially viable and deliverable. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design management process during the pre-construction phase on major commercial projects.
- Work closely with internal departments including planning, estimating, and bid management.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to develop efficient and innovative design solutions.
- Ensure all design outputs align with cost plans, programme, buildability, and client expectations.
- Contribute to bid strategies and attend interviews/presentations with clients.
- Mentor junior members of the team with a view to building a dedicated design team.
About You:
- Proven experience in design management at pre-construction stage, ideally within a main contractor environment.
- Strong understanding of RIBA stages, D&B contracts, and technical compliance.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
