Responsibilities
- The company is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to support the procurement of subcontract packages and construction services on medium to large-scale commercial projects.
- The role will work closely with estimating, commercial, and project teams to ensure subcontract procurement is delivered on a best-value, risk-aware basis, aligned with project budgets and programme requirements.
- Liaise with the estimating team during tender stages, providing feedback on current market rates and supply chain input.
- Procure construction subcontract packages up to £15–20m in value, ensuring best value and budget alignment.
- Negotiate favourable commercial and contractual terms with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure subcontract and supplier terms are clearly defined during procurement to avoid undue commercial or contractual risk.
- Work with in-house and external designers to ensure procurement aligns with project scope and specifications.
- Procure all project-related elements including subcontract works, preliminaries, temporary works, plant hire, labour-only packages, and consumables.
- Support the development and maintenance of robust procurement programmes with project teams.
- Monitor market conditions, price fluctuations, and supply chain capacity.
- Maintain, develop, and continually review the company’s approved supply chain.
Qualifications
- Experience working as a Senior Buyer or in a procurement-focused role within construction or engineering.
- Strong knowledge of the end-to-end construction procurement process.
- Experience dealing with suppliers and subcontractors on large-scale construction projects.
- Engineering or construction-related degree (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with quantities or measurement is highly desirable.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
